Different Types of Drywall Anchors

Drywall Anchors are very important in your home improvement projects. They can be used to hold drywall in place or to prevent it from falling in on you when you hammer it into place. Drywall anchors come in a variety of shapes and sizes and can be used for various purposes. One of the most common uses is as an in-between step on drywall that allows for a snug fit. You can use the drywall anchors to prevent water from leaking underneath your drywall surface. When using these anchors in between drywall panels, make sure they are screwed in tightly and are not loose enough that the panel can be pulled loose and fall on you.

Drywall anchors, also called a drywall tie-in, are an insert that, coupled with the right screws, will make a strong anchor for your drywall surface. An anchor will catch the drywall as it is hung and hold it to the studs in your walls. This allows for the panel to be securely hung. A drywall anchor basically goes between the studs and the drywall, holding the drywall tighter than a regular screw would. These studs are cut out in the middle of the wall, and are then drilled to be able to accommodate drywall anchors.

These studs are pre-drilled at their proper points before being used in the holes that are cut into your walls. The holes are drilled by professional contractors using special hydraulic drills. After the holes have been made, drywall anchors are added to the pre-drilled holes using an extra large drywall screw. Make sure the screws are screwed in tightly and are attached securely to the studs in the wall. After installing all the drywall anchors, the panel is ready to be hung.

There are two ways that you can hang these drywall anchors. You can use either a jigsaw or power drill. For a really secure hanging point, using a jigsaw is recommended. Use this method when there are lots of small holes to fill in. If a lot of filler is needed to get the panel into the hole, then using a power drill will work just as well. Drywall anchors should always be securely tightened, because they will prevent the panels from falling through.

Drywall anchors are not just for hanging panels. Over the years, manufacturers have developed plastic wall anchors that can be used in just about any drywall repair situation. These plastic anchors come in varying sizes so that they can fit most standard-size holes. Unlike drywall anchors, plastic wall anchors use no hydraulic pressure to attach them to the wall. Simply using a pair of pliers, you will be able to anchor almost any size hole. Because these anchors do not require any pressure to keep them in place, they are much safer than drywall anchors, which rely on the presence of some sort of pressure to keep the panels in place.

Over the years, companies have developed specialized types of drywall anchors for specific situations. In one case, a homeowner needed to hang shelves on their wall because their children could not reach the top. They needed to install fasteners at the top of the shelf, and since the wall had not been hung previously, using a standard drywall anchors with drill bits was out of the question.

To solve this problem, the homeowner decided to install expansion anchors directly on the ceiling joists. After installing the expansion anchors, he realized that he could now install drywall anchors on top of the ceiling joists because he no longer needed to drill tiny holes. Expanding drywall anchors can also fix a ceiling that has undergone roof replacement. Instead of having to drill through the plywood sheathing that makes up the roof, the expansion anchors are placed directly onto the roof joists.

Drywall anchors come in a wide variety of styles and sizes to accommodate a variety of installation situations. Most homeowners know how to install standard drywall screws, but they may not have a clue as to the different types of studs that can use drywall anchors to hang items. Studs come in different sizes and materials, and depending on where the stud is located, it may not be suitable for use with drywall anchors.
