Track Saw – What You Must Know Before Buying

If you’re a DIY (do it yourself) woodworker, you’ll need a Track Saw. For cutting circular or cross-cut lines as well as for straight cuts, circular saws are the best. They’re cheap and available at most hardware stores. The best part is that they are easy to use. Here’s a Track Saw buying guide to help you make the right choice.

You need to first decide what kind of fence your saw will be used on. There are three types of fence tracks to choose from: cordless, corded/plugged, and gas. Cordless track saws use a small rechargeable battery to power the blade and a small circular saw. You have to manually start and stop the blade as well as work the saw itself. Battery life will last over an hour and the cord can be recharged multiple times per day. Cordless models usually come with a protective casing.

If you’re using gas, cordless models will allow you to leave the blade in while you run other chores. This is a big plus for most home improvement shops or do-it-yourselfers. Gas-powered track saws are more expensive, but they’re worth the cost if you only plan on using it one or two times per month. Cordless track saws use a charge cord to power the saw and blade. Battery life will last approximately an hour, and you have to manually start and stop the blade.

Which one is best for your budget and needs? The best track saw buying guide will help you determine which features will be most important to you. One option is a cordless model. These are more expensive, but most do not require the user to manually power the saw. Instead, they just turn on the cord, locate the blade, and start cutting.

Cordless circular saws come equipped with either a cord or a battery. A corded model usually requires the user to plug the saw into a wall outlet. These cuts can be more efficient than cordless ones because they require less room to store them. However, there is no cord-free circular saw available, so those users who prefer to work off power outlets may be out of luck.

Table saws have longer cords that wrap around the entire length of the table. Cordless models generally don’t have any cords, but some models do have extension cords that run behind the table saw. Table saws provide better accuracy than cordless ones, although many buyers consider this extra cost to be an unnecessary expense. Most buyers agree that cordless models are easier to store and carry around.

Which angle setting is best for a circular saw? Most tracks offer several different settings for cutting angles, but it depends on what you’re actually cutting and where. A straight-edge track is ideal for straight wood cutting, while a diamond-carbide edge is preferred for crosscutting hardwood or soft material. Some angle settings even provide a crosscutting option, which allows the blade to cut across the face of the piece, instead of down the middle.

When buying a circular saw, you need to protect your investment. Some models, such as the Miterra, include a blade guard. Some models include a blade guard that attaches to the fence, but this is not recommended unless the saw is used frequently in or near water. Using a non-removable blade guard allows the blade to get wet and rust while the user is not using the machine. If you do accidentally get the blade guard caught on something, it is important to keep all receipts for parts and labor for repairs. Avoid using tamp oil or other chemical cleaners to clean the machine, as these can damage the finish on the blade and the fence.
